Study on 1 Thessalonians
"Loving,
living and longing."

11 : Privilege of serving together. 1 Thess. 5:12-28
The church
is a family; God is the Father of us all and we are all brothers and
sisters. This relationship is pointed out over 20 times in 1Thess.,
mainly through the use of the word "brother". As he closes
his letter, he picks out three aspects of church life where we must
share together.
1. Leadership
in the Church v12,13.
- Role
of elders

1Tim 3:5; 5:17;
admonish
- Respect
from members
very
highly=exceeding abundantly see Eph 3:20 .
Give acceptance, appreciation; affection.
- Relationship
between them
"be
at peace among yourselves"
they labour among you ... love them for their work's sake.
2. Fellowship
in the Church v14,15
Paul
continues to address the members, not just the leaders. They all have
a duty to-
- care
for each other the idle, the timid and the weak
- be
patient with each other for God is patient, patience is fruit of
the Spirit and love is always patient.
3. Worship
in the Church v16-22
Paul
is not just addressing individuals but a group. These verses are almost
like an order for a service of worship.
- Praise
"rejoice always" see Col. 3:20. Worship should be done
with awe, reverence and humility but also with joy.
- Prayer
The prayer life of a church will be one indication of its spiritual
condition.
- Thanksgiving
We can never worship the Lord without being thankful. Many services
are thanksgiving services and every week at the Lord's Table we
give thanks.
- Hearing
the Word We are to "search the Scriptures"
Let
the Holy Spirit speak to you and move you to praise, prayer and thanksgiving.
